What is Creatine and what is it for?

Creatine is a nitrogenous organic acid that is present in muscles and nerve cells. It is produced naturally in the human body from amino acids mainly in the kidneys and liver, and is transported through the blood to the muscles. Creatine takes part in the generation of the energy that muscles need for their functioning.

Physical exercise drains the reserves of Creatine and Phosphocreatine quickly, which causes muscle fatigue and the inability to continue exercising until these reserves are restored. The intake of Creatine supplements makes the reserves of Creatine and Phosphocreatine do not deplete so quickly and the anaerobic exercise can be maintained for a longer time.

Some of the most important reasons for the use of Creatine supplements among athletes are the following:

• Allow the athlete to perform high-intensity exercises.
• Increase the ability to recover quickly.
• Improve physical performance.
• Enhance anaerobic capacity.
• Increase muscle mass.

It is recommended to take the Creatine supplement 30 minutes to 1 hour before the training session, because it is enough time for it to be digested and used by the body.
