What is Glutamine?

Glutamine is an amino acid (the amino acids are the building blocks that join together to make up proteins in the body). Glutamine is the most abundant free amino acid found in the human body. It is produced in the muscles and is then distributed to many organs through the bloodstream.

Glutamine is considered a conditionally essential amino acid, which means that the body produces enough amount of Glutamine needed for regular bodily functions, but some conditions such as injury, surgery, stress or infection can reduce Glutamine levels and then it must be obtained from the diet or supplement

Glutamine plays many important roles in body functioning; some of them are:
  • Protein Synthesis
  • Neutralizes excess acid in the muscles
  • It is a source of cellular energy
  • Improves immune function and helps to keep defenses up
  • It is essential for intestinal health
  • Promotes glucose uptake after workouts
  • Enhances the hydration state of muscles
  • Prevents muscle fatigue

The main dietary sources of glutamine are protein-rich foods such as beef, chicken, fish (especially salmon), dairy products, eggs; vegetables such as beets, cabbage, spinach, carrots, parsley, Brussels sprouts, celery; and other foods such as beans, whole grains, and nuts.

You can also get all the benefits of Glutamine by taking Gluta Bomb, a supplement included in TBN’s Raw Stack.
