What is Veganism?

Veganism is a lifestyle and philosophy that consists of not using animal products for food, clothing, medicines, cosmetics, transportation, etc. In this way, veganism is dedicated to avoiding causing any type of damage to animals, since it considers that animals are sentient beings that we must respect and not objects for our use.   

Those who practice veganism are known as vegans.   

Regarding nutrition, some of the basic foods consumed by vegans are fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, cereals; while the foods excluded in veganism are meats of any kind, fish, eggs, honey, milk, and dairy products.   

In the vegan diet, planning is essential; in fact, it is recommended to have the advice of a nutritionist so that the diet includes all the vitamins and minerals needed to stay healthy, because otherwise there could be a deficiency of protein, vitamin B12, iron, calcium, among other nutrients.

The vegan diet is considered to help prevent many diseases such as osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, gallstones, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.

Besides, clothing or products made of leather, wool, or any animal skin are not used; neither cosmetics nor drugs tested on animals; likewise, vegans reject the use of animals in zoos, circuses, etc.
